Not very pretty are they? Windshield chips can make even the proudest vehicle feel old and unappreciated, additionally there is a better than average chance the damage will spread across the windshield. That means replacement and deductibles.
What is a windshield repair? Windshield repair is a process that utilizes modern technology to fill a damaged area on a windshield with special clear adhesive resin. When this resin is cured the damaged area's strength is restored as is most of the clarity. How does windshield repair work? When a chip or crack occurs, it often spreads into the windshield's inner layer of plastic, which is sandwiched between two layers of glass. In some instances, a drill is used to make a clean passageway to the plastic, where the resin is injected to repair the damage. Think of a windshield repair as first-aid that prevents the damage from getting worse. In some cases, it may look nearly perfect, while in others, it could still appear slightly blemished. But in either case, a proper repair prevents the damage from spreading. And since every chip is unique, some will respond more effectively to repair than others.
Rock chips are repaired using a tool that injects special resin into the window, sealing the chip and preventing further cracking.
Why repair my windshield? Repairing a damaged windshield makes sense for several reasons. Repairs save money by preventing the need for costly replacement, and are very convenient taking only a few minutes. Repairs do not affect the integrity of the original factory seal since the glass is never removed. With the rising price of modern automotive glass and the high rate of faulty installations, it's a great alternative! Did you know that a bad installation can be very dangerous? What kind of damage can be repaired? Stone damage or stone "chips" up to the size of a 50 cent piece can be repaired. Best results are obtained when the repair is done before the damaged area becomes contaminated from car washing, inclement weather or other exposure. What does a repair cost? A lot less than a replacement! Rates for services performed by DingWorks Inc. can be found on our pricing page. Prices vary but on average a stone chip repair costs $55 Compare that to the industry average of $300 to $500 for replacing a windshield, more for the newer model vehicles, and you can see the savings!
